Installation

SynapSpec supports multiple installation methods across Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms.

  • Windows: Windows 10, 11, or Server 2016/2019/2022 (64-bit)
  • macOS: macOS 10.14 or higher (Apple Silicon only)
  • Linux: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS or higher
  • Minimum: 4 cores
  • Recommended: Intel or AMD CPU with 16 cores or more
  • Minimum: 16 GB RAM
  • Recommended: 32 GB RAM or more
  • Note: 4 GB RAM per thread for optimal performance
  • Installation: 3 GB available disk space
  • Data Processing: 2 TB or more (2x dataset size recommended)
  • Recommended: SSD for improved processing speed

Before installing SynapSpec, ensure you have the following dependencies installed:

Download and install the .NET Runtime (not SDK) from Microsoft .NET Downloads

  • Select .NET Runtime for your operating system
  • Follow the installation instructions for your platform

Install via Homebrew:

brew install mono

Install via package manager:

sudo apt install libmpv-dev

Download pre-built binaries from our SynapSpec download page.

  1. Download SynapSpec-windows-{version}.zip
  2. Extract (Unzip) the downloaded file to a local folder. (⚠️ Important: You must extract the files first. Do not run the installer directly from inside the zip file.)
  3. Open the extracted folder and run SynapSpec-windows-{version}.msi. Ensure the accompanying .cab files are in the same folder.
  4. Follow the installation wizard.
  1. Download SynapSpec-macos-{version}.dmg
  2. Mount the DMG file
  3. Drag SynapSpec to Applications folder
  1. Download SynapSpec-linux-{version}.tar
  2. Extract tar: tar -xvf SynapSpec-linux-{version}.tar
  3. Run: ./synapspec
